Origins
Jim Ludwick was born in Hollywood. Actually, his parents lived in Hollywood. He was born in Santa Monica, California just after WWII. Jim grew up in Redondo Beach and then Canoga Park, California where he graduated from high school and went to California Polytechnic University for one year and then joined the Air Force serving in public affairs, broadcasting and finally as a Medical Service Corps officer in hospital administration.
He retired after 21 years active duty to Santa Barbara, California where he worked as an assistant hospital administrator, commercial real estate broker, life insurance agent, vice president in two bank trust departments, and as a regional vice president for a large investment management firm before starting his own hourly fee-only financial planning firm in suburban Maryland in 2002. He graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in public administration followed by a master’s degree in Management from Troy State University and a Masters of Hospital Administration degree from the University of Minnesota.
He became a Certified Financial Planner Practitioner™ in 2000 having demonstrated more than three years’ experience in the personal finance industry. Jim sold his financial planning firm in 2014 but remained as founder and a key employee until April 1, 2022.
He now coaches fee-only financial advisors whose prospects “are on the fence” and have a hard time making financial decisions. Jim listens first about your situation and experiences. In addition, he speaks to groups of advisors and CFP students on sales skills to avoid procrastination by prospects. He no longer gives regulated financial advice. Jim remains a member of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors and the Garrett Planning Network.
Jim is married (49 years) to retired nurse Carol Ann McGuire Ludwick and they have two sons, both married, and six grandchildren.
